Friends of The Legacy Trail Surrey Rides-Reservations

The 2011-2012 Surrey Program offers a way for mobility challenged residents and visitors who would otherwise be unable to share in The Legacy Trail experience. The Surrey will be leaving for one-hour trips from the Laurel Park Trailhead (LPT) every Tuesday and Wednesday at 9:00 am, 10:00 am, 1:00 pm and 2:00 pm. The LPT is located at 509 Collins Rd. in Laurel. FLT volunteers provide the pedal-power while the passengers sit back and enjoy the ride. The rides are free. If you wish to register for a trip, go to the Sarasota County website at www.scgov.net and click on Calendar of Events, then to the month, date and time you would like to schedule a ride.

The trip goes south from LPT to two outstanding Legacy Trail spots, the Dona Bay Trestle and the Roberts Bay Trestle. Click here for a map of The Legacy Trail.

The Surrey Program has been well received by our passengers. FLT volunteer peddlers have benefited greatly from meeting and visiting with the riders. The positive and friendly response of the walkers and cyclists along the trail adds a sense of community to the Surrey Ride. The Surrey is a donation by FLT to Sarasota County to promote The Legacy Trail and other County Parks. Funds for the Surrey are from the 2010 Tour de Parks Fun Ride.

The Overpass Opens !

November 5, 2011 marked the the official opening of The Legacy Trail Overpass spanning US 41 By Pass. The ribbon cutting ceremony reportedly had the highest attendance of any park project in memory according to county officials. Click Here for more pictuces of the Overpass Celebration.

FLT Membership Just
Became More Valuable !
The Friends of The Legacy Trail are pleased to announce the debut of Business Partner Discounts for our members. FLT volunteers have been working with area merchants, restaurants and service providers to make your membership card more valuable. FLT's Business Partners welcome trail enthusiasts with the offer of a discount upon the presentation of your FLT membership card.

Discounts vary from merchant to merchant, so be sure to check our website frequently to see the latest deals and our newest Partners. Your next evening out could easily offset the cost of your annual membership ($10.00 - Single & $15.00 - Family), all while you are helping with FLT's mission of support, enhancement and promotion of the The Legacy Trail !

Join us at our monthly meeting (see below) or visit the FLT tent out along the trail or at a local park event to sign up and get your card. You can also download and complete a membership application and mail the form along with a self addressed, stamped envelope and receive your membership card by return mail.

Meeting Information

FLT meets the first Tuesday of each month at Oscar Scherer State Park 1843 S. Tamiami Trail, Osprey, FL 34229 - 941-483-5956, in the Nature Center. The Park admission fee is waived for meeting attendees. More Info
