Additional Parking Planned
Map to McIntosh Rd Parking Lot
New Bay Street - Osprey Parkland Acquisition Complete
The overwhelming popularity of The Legacy Trail has only grown since the Grand Opening on March 28, 2008. After reviewing right-of-way parking impacts and public concerns from Palmer Ranch residents, it was determined additional parking areas would be needed. County staff began to develop plans for additional parking and access in southern Sarasota. In addition to the 7901 McIntosh parking lot (See Figure 1), opened in 2008, those plans include:
Palmer Ranch Holdings Conservation Easement Site Plan
A 50 space parking area is being proposed in this easement. The County staff has been working on the details of a property lease with Palmer Ranch Holdings for this site near the current northern terminus of the trail. A community garden and other amenities are also anticipated for the new park. See Figure 2
Marlin Site - Bay Street, Osprey
The purchase of the Marlin site on Bay Street has been recently completed. County staff has started preliminary design and will be exploring a temporary parking area designated for Trail users in consultation with the Osprey community and trail users. This will be part of the future park site plan. Construction of parking facilities could be completed in 2010. The number of spaces to be constructed at this site (temporary or permanent) has not yet been determined. See Figure 3
