 Purpose and Goals

The Friends of The Legacy Trail (FLT) was established on December 6, 2006 as a Chapter of the Friends of Sarasota County Parks, a not for profit corporation.

Purpose:

FLT exists to support, promote, enhance and protect The Legacy Trail now and for future generations.

To accomplish that mission FLT established these Goals:

1. Recruit volunteers to assist in the maintenance and operation of the Rails-to-Trails, and related facilities as selected by the FLT Officers and approved by the county's designee.

2. Raise funds to aid in the development of buildings, structures, and support of educational and recreational programs to enhance The Legacy Trail.

3. Advocate and work toward protection and enhancement of the Legacy Trail corridor.

4. Seek to educate the public about the Trail and amenities along the Legacy Trail to enhance user enjoyment and safety.

5. Promote the The Legacy Trail and related County programs, including connectivity with other trails and parks as part of Sarasota County's trail system.

6. Cooperate with the County in establishing and operating a volunteer community watch bike patrol for the Trail.

7. Promote cooperative and collaborative support among other individuals, groups, and agencies whose goals are environmental education, nature based recreation, and the preservation of the ecological integrity of the Trail and related facilities.
